The Elfin Forest Firewise Garden, founded in 1996 by Nils Lunnerdal, an Elfin Forest resident and firefighter, shows that firewise can be colorful, water-efficient, and low maintenance. You’ll discover an extensive collection of perennials, succulents, shrubs and trees, planted according to County firewise ordinances. An information kiosk represents a home and plantings demonstrate defensible spaces. You’ll see the attractive use of non-burning gravel as mulch. Each plant is identified with a sign, and generous pathways lead you through various plant communities representing a colorful home garden. You’ll discover that you can increase your property value and conserve water while beautifying your home.
